Essential Oil Therapy

Writer: Elyse IpsenElyse Ipsen

Essential oil therapy is the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance and promote the health of body, mind and spirit. Essential oil constituents possess the unique ability to bypass the conscious brain and directly impact the deeper areas that control emotion.

Different essential oils trigger different responses in the brain. Lavender is used to reduce anxiety and help you sleep. Clary sage is used to reduce blood pressure. Peppermint is used to make you feel more alert and boost

memory. Rosemary is used to enhance brain power. Cinnamon is used to boost focus and lemon is used to improve mood.

A diffuser is the most effective way to unleash essential oils into the air, but if you don't have one you can drip the oils into a bowl of steaming hot water. In either case, use one or two drops at a time. When using essential oils try to breath them in for 15-45 minutes. Never breath in essential oils for more than one hour at a time.

Most essential oils are high in anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties.

This makes them an excellent addition to your home cleaning preparations. Lemon, grapefruit, eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, lavender and rosemary are the best essential oils for cleaning.
